LineLazer app version for marine and offshore shaft alignment
SPM Instrument has released an updated version of the LineLazer app for precision shaft alignment. Available for download via App Store and Google Play, the app supports accurate alignment of rotating machinery commonly found in marine and offshore applications, such as motor-pump assemblies.
The new version includes enhanced reporting functionality, allowing users to add images and comments and share reports directly from iOS and Android devices. Improved ambient light filtering also reduces disturbances during laser-based measurements, supporting more stable alignment work in varying onboard conditions.
LineLazer app version 2.0 introduces a soft-foot check within the alignment workflow, helping users identify and correct foundation-related issues before alignment work begins. The update also expands the 3D image library with a gearbox-generator model and includes additional improvements and bug fixes.
Misaligned shafts are a common cause of mechanical problems, including bearing damage, coupling wear, seal failures, increased vibration, and higher energy consumption. In marine and offshore operations, accurate shaft alignment supports reduced unplanned downtime, lower maintenance costs, improved energy efficiency, and longer equipment service life.
