Austrian paper mill Feurstein invests in the latest HD technologies for condition monitoring of PM3

In the course of rebuilding its paper machine PM3, Dr. Franz Feurstein paper mill in Traun, Austria, is also expanding the existing online condition monitoring system with the multifunctional SPM online system Intellinova.

The new measuring points are equipped with DuoTech accelerometers. DuoTech combines vibration and shock pulse measurements with the patented HD ENV and SPM HD measurement techniques in a single sensor, thus offering maximum pre-warning times for deteriorating mechanical condition.

The Maintenance Manager at Feurstein commented on the investment: "We have been using the SPM online system since the start-up of PM3, and have had very good experiences with it, so it was a logical step for us to connect also the new rollers to the online system. With the measurement techniques HD ENV and SPM HD, we can identify bearing damage and loose clamping nuts very early, which in turn means that we can plan our maintenance work in advance and carry it out during a planned stop."

The Feurstein paper mill has installed the online monitoring system from SPM on PM3, the pulper, the screens and the headbox pump. Ancillary equipment as well as paper machines PM1 and PM2 are monitored at regular intervals with the SPM data logger Leonova Diamond.

The paper mill Dr. Franz Feurstein, a member of the delfort group, concentrates on the production of tipping base papers, "ecopac" papers for the food industry, thinprint papers and special cigarette papers. With a team of more than 275 highly qualified employees, Feurstein produces consistently high-quality papers on three paper machines. PM3 is the world's most advanced and high-performance specialty paper machine in the world for these papers.
